It’s not everyday that the Wall Street Journal does a profile on your favourite band growing up. Especially if the profile is about how that band has failed to succeed in the US, despite other less-popular Canadian bands’ ability to do so. Yet in this WSJ article about the Tragically Hip, that is what has happened.
The article does a good job describing the phenomenon long known to Hip fans, yet it doesn’t really answer it. I have never understood how the Hip haven’t caught on in the States (although I can understand moreso now, since I have not been a fan of their past few albums). Their live shows are most always enjoyable and the frontman has quite a bit of personality.
Something tells me a WSJ feature is not going to springboard them to American stardom. Perhaps they will catch on amongst the wealthy financiers of America and finally rake in the dough they have always deserved.
