Much has been made of the Sports Illustrated Cover Curse.  I can’t think of how many times I laughed as a youth when I received SI and the person on the cover had already gone down in flames.  At the same time, the truly great are seemingly exempt from the curse, namely Michael Jordan and his record 49 cover appearances (although this cover argues to the contrary).  I believe this week’s cover will have no ill effects on Lebron’s championship march (he will win the chip, have no fear), but I do believe it is a curse….for the people of Cleveland.  The quote, right there in the bottom left corner that states: I don’t have any plans on going anywhere.  These fans have done everything to support me. 14 months from now when Lebron is having a press conference at Madison Square Garden to announce his new max deal with the Knicks, the people of Cleveland will know what I am talking about.  I wish he weren’t going to leave, but he has to.  It’s for the good of basketball.
